How to Avoid Home Business Scams
Before you invest any money in a start up plan to you have
found on the internet you should do extensive research. You want
to be sure that the business is not a scam that you pay for and
you get no helpful leads or information. People spend over $100
million a year in work at home scams; the number of scams has
dramatically increased over the last three years. You may be
wondering why so many people are becoming a victim of these when
the over all percentage of a successful at home business is
small. The costs of these scams are very small so there for
people believe the expense is affordable. Many people are
reacting on their emotions and not on information about the
opportunity, often people just buy it with no research at all.
If an opportunity sounds too great to be true then it probably
is, there is no such thing as get rich quick.
Using your common sense and your gut instinct are important when
you are looking into a company. Also use the following tips to
checkout the company details to see if they are legit or not.
You can start by calling directory assistance; this is one of
the easiest ways to see if a company is where they claim to be.
If directory assistance cannot find the exact name they
advertise or the address does not match the name listed then you
will know this is a fraud, and walk away from it. Avoid
companies that only take PayPal, anyone can sign up for a PayPal
account. If a company can accept credit cards you know they had
to be approved before hand, but this should not be your only
defining criteria. Beware of companies that claim you will make
a certain amount of money, these are exaggerated and there is no
way they can guarantee what you will earn. Obtain specific
information from the company; get a person’s contact information
(not a voicemail), the business location, if they have a refund
policy, what type of resources and support they offer and most
importantly get some references from current members. Look up
the company with the Better Business Bureau. Even some legit and
respected companies require a pre payment so just because a
company is requiring a payment does not mean it is a scam. Keep
in mind that a true business opportunity will not pressure you
into making a decision right away; they will offer you the
opportunity and let you make the decision. If you do pay for
membership in a company and it does not provide what is promised
be sure you request your refund within the refund time limit. If
you do not receive your payment call and send a letter, then
contact authorities if needed and report them to the better
business bureau.
Keep all this information in mind when looking for an at home
career and this will great reduce your chances of being scammed. |
